Running for funds here and now to benefit victims of human trafficking
DALLAS, Texas (March 1, 2012) – To raise awareness about human trafficking, particularly in the North Texas area, Mosaic Family Services will be hosting its third annual Stop the Traffick 5K and 1 mile run on May 12 at Bachman Lake Park in Dallas.
The event’s slogan, “It’s happening here. It’s happening now,” rings true with 20 percent of the nation’s trafficking victims dwelling within Texas’ border, according to the Office of the Attorney General’s 2008 Texas Response to Human Trafficking report.
The Dallas-based non-profit organization strives to combat this prevalent but obscured form of modern day slavery by providing a variety of comprehensive and linguistically competent services, all free of charge, to immigrants, refugees and victims of trafficking and violence. Mosaic Family Services currently reaches more than 15,000 people each year.
Supporters of Mosaic’s anti-human trafficking work can participate in three ways: the 5K Run/Walk, the 1 Mile, or as a virtual runner if they wish to support Mosaic Family Services from home. The 1 Mile begins at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K Run/Walk starts at 9 a.m. Race day registration and packet pickup beings at 8:30 a.m. Registration fees range between $15 and $25. Awards and prizes will be presented to the overall and master male and female finishers of the eight different age groups.
The funds raised by volunteers and contributors will go toward Mosaic’s spectrum of case management, legal, shelter, counseling, education and outreach services for North Texas’ diverse multicultural community.
To register, donate or become a fundraiser for the event, visit the Stop the Traffick website. For more information on the event, please visit Mosaic’s events page or contact Laura Haynes at email@example.com.
